Through research and site visits, you will learn the natural, human and cultural history of each site. You will also have an opportunity to develop high interest lessons for your students that meet your teaching goals.

PORTLAND'S PARKS: Science & History Lessons Just Waiting to Happen
Three credits

In this fun and informative course, you are asked to research and then visit Washington Park (including the Hoyt Arboretum, Japanese Garden and International Test Rose Garden). In NW Portland, you will visit Lower Macleay Park and the Bird Alliance of Oregon, as well as Jamison Square, Tanner Springs Park and The Fields Park, each in the Pearl District. East side parks to visit include Mt. Tabor Park, Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden, Rocky Butte and Cully Park.

PORTLAND'S HIDDEN PARKS
Three credits

In this exciting course, you are asked to research and then visit Sellwood Park, Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge, Elk Rock Island, Westmoreland Park, Ladd's Addition and Lone Fir Cemetery, all in SE Portland. In North Portland, sites to visit include Peninsula Park, Arbor Lodge Park, Columbia Park, the University of Portland campus, Cathedral Park, Pier Park and Kelley Point Park. In SW Portland, you are asked to visit Spring Garden Park, Riverview Cemetery, Marshall Park, Gabriel Park and Pendleton Park.
